Our Tech finds: Smart Homes get Smarter

Our President and CEO, Christina Edwards, hopped a flight to Las Vegas early this month to check out the coolest new technology the world has to offer at the 2018 CES conference. CES is an annual conference hosted by the Consumer Technology Association, which has exhibits focusing on the most innovative trends in technology. In case you didn’t know, the Nest Egg family LOVES technology! We couldn’t wait to see the latest tech to help clients (and our own families!) to not only stay safe but to maintain their home better. There was so much to see and do that one week couldn’t possibly be enough to take it all in!
The CES conference covers a huge variety of technology focus areas from cars to sports, health, and everything in between. Being a home inspection company, most of the time at CES was in the Home and Family section. The area of smart homes has grown substantially over the past few years. Some of the booths visited had innovations in lighting, security, energy management, environmental controls, appliances, home safety and maintenance, home cleaning, health and fitness, and home automation for the elderly.
After taking in as much as possible, with all the amazing tech and gadgets out there, here are the things that we feel might be the most beneficial to our clients (not to mention they are super cool!)
Guardian Leak Prevention System
Many smart home systems are developing products that monitor plumbing for leaks, but this system stood out. Not only does this system detect leaks, but it also has a valve controller that shuts off your home’s water if a leak is detected. According to their website, “We challenged ourselves to create a reliable, always available solution that anyone can install, without tools or cutting into pipes. We wanted the system to detect water and take action automatically, even if the user is away from their home. And our final design, for both the Valve Controller and Leak Detector, is truly revolutionary in form and function.” If you think that this is as cool as we do, find out more about it here on their website!

Air Things Radon Monitoring
If your home has tested high for radon and you have a mitigation system, it is recommended that you retest your home annually. To avoid having to pay for a retest annually, you can purchase an Air Things Radon Monitoring System. Their website brags, “A smart radon detector with quick and accurate results on your smartphone. Additionally, you can simply wave in front of the detector to get a visual indication of your radon levels.” I don’t know about you, but we think that’s pretty neat! If you are interested in learning more about Radon and the dangers it poses, check out our informative blog post or head over to the Air Things website, which also has information on radon and the monitoring products they offer.

One more exciting thing…
Lastly, while at the conference, Christina spent some time in the start-up section! What was she doing in the start-up area you ask? Stay tuned to the blog and our social media sites for some exciting announcements to come later this year! We can’t wait to share the news!!
